“When we heal ourselves, we heal our lineage”

– Alex Elle

The Type of Therapist I am:

• I’m the type of therapist who also has a therapist. I’ve been going to therapy off and on for 5 years.

• I’m the type of therapist who knows that systemic racism and prejudice can play a major role on your mental health.

• I am the type of therapist who does not judge people’s coping skills unless they are detrimental to their lively hood or the lives of others.

• I’m therapist that will reference a song or tv show in session.

• I’m the type of therapist who collaborates with her clients when it comes to treatment planning.

• I’m the type of therapist who shows up as her full self so that my client’s can feel comfortable showing up as their full selves as well.

• I’m the type of therapist who believes you know what’s best for your more than I do.

Approach

My therapeutic approach is pretty eclectic, as I pull from a number of different theories and modalities. I like to use whatever theories meets my client’s needs the most. There are certain theories that I do find myself using more often.

The counseling approaches I often use are:

  • Solution Focus Therapy

Future-focused, goal-directed, and focused on the solution rather than the client’s problem.

  • Person Centered Therapy

The client is the expert on their situation and they take the lead in sessions, the therapist is a non-judgmental facilitator.

  • Narrative Therapy

The therapist helps the client identify their skills, values, and abilities that will assist the client with changing their relationship with their problems

  • Cognitive Behavior Therapy

The therapist helps the client identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors.
